bigla cycling team wins three titles

Karin Thürig, two-time women's world champion, won the 18.1 km women's race. But she had to
fight harder than in previous years — the holder of two Olympic bronze medals in time trials has not
yet fully recovered from a fall she took in mid-April. "I didn't have my best day today, and my legs
weren't strong," said Karin Thürig at the finish line.

On Saturday the bigla team started the road race with a bit of anxiety because Nicole Brändli was
not allowed to start after her recent operation. The Bike-Import team put on a very aggressive
showing, launching Sereina Trachsel early in the race. All attacks were fended off until the outcome
was decided in the final sprint. Karin Thürig headed her two team mates at a horrendous pace on
the home stretch, leading to gold and silver for Jennifer Hohl and Bettina Kuhn.

At the start of the women's junior championship race on Sunday, the team's three racers were fully
motivated. The titles were won by a hair in the final sprint: Martina Weiss, in front of Désirée Ehrler
and Martina's twin sister Sandra.
